I am a curator

The way paintings that I would put in my personal space are from Picasso and Van Gogh. Picasso's Three Musicians, Van Gogh's Starry Night.

I would "place" Starry Night (left) in the living room (or the front room of my house). Since our living room has a fireplace, it is a perfect place to place Starry Night. Starry Night will give the room a sense of peace when you walk in. Because we use the living room only when guests are present for tea or to have conversations. The painting would work when the fireplace is lit on a cold night. The painting would give the room a feeling of a cold and starry night. This painting is very eye catching so once you walk in this is the first thing you'll see and goes well with our room because it is pretty much a "dark" room. And we usually use it at night.

Continuing the Van Gogh theme, I would also place Café Terrace at Night by Van Gogh in the living room. This would be a great compliment to Starry Night. These two paintings could go hand in hand with another. They look similar to one another. Both have a night scene with stars brightly shining. I think this will give our guest a feeling like they are actually at a Cafe while having tea and biscuits.

Moving from the living room to the family room in the back of my house, I would place Picasso's Three Musicians.

I would place this painting centered above our piano. The brown shades of this painting would compliment our piano, which is also brown. This painting is perfect in our family room because we have sort of a brown theme in that room. The walls have a tan shade, our furniture is brownish, and our floors are brown wood.

One final painting i would place in MY room is from Mark Jenkins called Champions of Europe. This is one of my favorite paintings. It is not know world wide or anything, but it's a personal favorite.

I am a huge Liverpool FC fan, and when they won the Champions League in 2005, it was an amazing sight. I have a couple of Liverpool posters in my room so this would fit perfectly in the room. I would place this painting above my TV so when I am watching a Liverpool game, I can marvel at the success they have had.

The Norton Simon

I got a chance to visit the Norton Simon. I have never noticed it was in Pasadena, let alone on Colorado since I am always there in Old Town Pasadena. It was a great experience, I have been to museums before, but that was when I was younger and was just following my parents around. But this time I was able to experience the museum in a whole new way. I was able to look at the art and appreciate it or dislike it some of the art. A I made my way through the galleries I found myself gazed upon the Portraits gallery, especially the Picasso Portraits. I was intrigued by they how abstract his art was.

The following are Pablo Picasso's work:
This is"Portrait of Arthur Rimbaud" by Pablo Picasso. For an artist of Picasso's caliber, this seems like its too simple compared to the other of his portraits. But this is Picasso for you, simple but abstract. This is so simple even i can draw this, but the artist Picasso is a master so mine wouldn't turn out as good as his.

This next Picasso art is "Portrait of a Woman." Compared to the above portrait by Picasso, this is much more abstract. I was so intrigued by how complex and colorful Picasso's work. There was a whole all dedicated to Picasso's portraits which were all amazing. I like the fact that this doesnt look like a real human, but a mixture many different shapes and patterns.

This one is "Woman with a Guitar" By Pablo Picasso. This was not in the portraits section, but when I saw this at first glance I though to myself "this has to be Picasso." And it was. When I looked a the title, i asked "Where is the woman?" It took me a while to look and study this painting. I think this one was my favorite from the museum.

The following art is something I have to question. Is this art?

This is by Josef Albers titles "Homage to the Square/Red series." Come on now, its just red squares. Where is the beauty in a red square? where is the intriguing factor? I don't see it. I definitely didnt like this one.

This concludes my museum blog. As you can see, I really like Picasso's work.

Follow Up

On my follow up I was able to visit some galleries that i missed the first night. I was able to visit Bunny Gunner which it's name and sign alone attracted me. The sign it self is a piece of art. its a creative and funny sight. The art inside that gallery was pretty cool it self, mostly the black and white designs.

I wanted to go back to the dA to get the name of the piece of art i posted on my first blog, but it was closed, so i will talk about another eye catching work of art. the following is Sweets for Sweets by Leslie A. Brown.

This has 3 panels as you can see it is divided into 3 parts. To me this seems like just random thing coming together to make a masterpiece. I have no idea how the different objects from the painting relate, but the artist did a damn good job of putting them together.

On my way home from walking around i decided to stop by The Frame House again and there I found my favorite artwork from this whole experience. On the first night i went through the Frame House really quick and just focused on the back wall of the paintings pomigrantes that i missed out on the others around it. Which reminds me, the name of the pomegrantes from my first post is Pomegrante Study. it was an oil canvass painting.

As i was talking to an employee there he told me that the money they make from the art would go to Aids Alliance, which I though was pretty cool

and now my favorite piece of art...

This is Sunset by Kathy Spear. I did not see thing on the first night. But this is my favorite. Its a picture of a woman with her back turned and looking into the distance. I like the color scheme. The colors seem to combine well with each other. I feels as if you are looking at a real sunset.

Art Walk

My first art walk. At the Art Walk The first thing I noticed as I walked through each gallery were the prices of the paintings!! They were outrageous! The gallery that stood out the most that night was at the dA Center. The theme was The New Traditionalists. It was the largest of the galleries I visited. The art to the left was the one that caught my eyes. It is a painting by Juan Thorpe ( I lost my notes and forgot the title, i will go on my follow up to get the title). It is an interesting painting. It is of two mechanical beast fighting. It catches my eyes because it the background is just a landscape and then you see two machines. It just catches you by surprise seeing a simple background then machines! While i was looking at the painting the bartender there called me and it was my old neighbor and he told me that Thorpe does a lot of mechanical paintings.

Another of my favorite of the night was from the Frame House. It is a picture of pomegranates. It is simple yet so well done. At first I asked myself what it was then i looked closer then realized it was pomegranates. The way the artist painting this made it look real. From the Color to the shading. The was the shading of this is fantastic.I think if the artist added the pomegranate seeds it would have made the painting more realistic.

My art walk experience was better than I expected. I was amazed by the many different styles of art i got to see and the wine! Plus the farmer's market was great!

Stay tuned for the follow up
